Jesus said in Matt 16:18 that He would build His Assembly - He did not say He was starting an organization or system, but an assembly of believers.
The Western organizational church today is based on a system that bears little resemblance to what Jesus said He would build - a system based on church hierarchy, church buildings and church business practices rather than what scripture teaches about true assemblies of believers.
The Apostle Paul never refers to the Ekklesia (assembly) as a physical structure, system or organization but as a dedicated group of disciples; a new race redeemed by the blood of Christ
"And coming to Him as to a living stone which has been rejected by men, but is choice [chosen, elect] and precious in the sight of God, you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices 1 Peter 2:4-5
Ekklesia denotes not a physical structure nor a systematic organization but a living, eternal spiritual dwelling place.
Paul said:
"So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints [holy ones] and are of God's household, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple [sanctuary] in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit" (Ephesians 2:20-22).
The true assembly of believers of God is not of this world but is a spiritual dwelling place for God.
The body of Christ is now being built up as a dwelling place of God, the body of Christ is now the temple, and individuals are of the household of God.
Christian Assemblies is here to help three fold:-
Who:
Christian Assemblies will be made up of Christians who meet together to honour and worship the Lord in a variety of settings from a couple meeting in their lounge room, small groups coming together in houses, larger groups coming together in halls, to churches wanting to transition away from the church system to the Ekklesia .
We have not formed Christian Assemblies because we have been hurt by 'church' as some would surmise, neither critical of it, we have had rather, our eyes opened to see what the church really is and received revelation of what was causing much of what we saw. While we were in the system we didnt see too much - coming out, our eyes were opened further.
What:
Christian Assemblies is being formed to foster relationships between assemblies, to strengthen and encourage one another, to provide resources, to help provide an external expression of Christ's love (some would call this missions) and to help implement answers to needs that assemblies have.
Why:
In Brief:- For the last 10 - 15 years Jeannette and I had been seeing the church system we were in was not what we saw in the Bible. We preached many messages outlining the problems we saw but had few, if any answers to give apart from saying things like "we need to get back to the expressing Christianity like what was in the Bible".
About 4 years ago the Lord spoke to me saying to beware of 'socio humanistic philosophy' and highlighted the state of the church and that He wanted me to stand against and do something about it. I didn't even know what that meant let alone do something about it.
Over the next few years He began to show me certain things that began to transform my life and the lives of others. Revelation like 'finding God outside of the walls of church', overcoming 'performance Christianity and performance leadership' to seeing that what we were in was run more like a business organization than an organism (body).
Last year the Lord started showing me about the 'idol that is called the church' - I began to teach this not knowing what it really was nor the enormity of what He was saying, nor the cost that it involved.
After reeling from the reaction of many people including friends and ministry associates I truly realized that I was indeed fighting this mammoth thing the Lord had revealed to me years earlier.
We found ourselves shunned by the people of the 'system', consequently our ministry died and we found ourselves in a position that we never ever imagined - trying to find our relationship with God outside of the 'system' and finding fellowship with people that were on the same page.
It has been stated that there are more Christians outside of the organized church than inside. Many of these Christians find it a difficult road to be on for many different reasons such as the need for fellowship with other Christians and serving Christ in a meaningful way. Many have walked the path and have experiences that can help others along the journey.
